Music and Performance Art at The 2009 Loisaida Festival

Enjoy a Poetry Jam with La Bruja, El Grito de Poetas, Familia Cepeda with Jose Tony Cepeda, G Positive and Jessie Rose, as well as Teen Open Mic and a Bomba and Plena workshop. Families will also have the opportunity to watch a theatre performance produced by Sociedad Educativa de las Artes (SEA), the premier Latino children’s theatre company in New York City.

WHEN: Sunday, May 24, 2009
11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Avenue C (Loisaida Avenue) from East 13th to East 6th Streets. Parking around the neighborhood is extremely limited, so the best way to get to the festival is by Subway.

Train:

• L train to First Avenue and 14th Streets- the First Avenue and 14th Street stop of the L Train is at walking distance from the festival site--Avenue C and 12th Street, just walk East to Avenue C from 14th Street.

• Lexington (green line) to Union Square; at Union Station you can transfer to the Eastbound L train to First Avenue (last stop in Manhattan)

Bus Lines

• M-14 via Avenue D- This bus runs from West to East on 14th Street. You can transfer to this bus from any train that stops on 14th Street. If you are in route to the festival area from the Westside, make sure to travel Eastbound, where Loisaida is located, close to the East River. On that day, the bus will leave you on Avenue B and 14th.

• M-8 or M-9-If you get off the subway on either 8th or 6th Avenue, or Union Square, transfer to this bus (going eastbound) to East 10th Street. On East 10th, walk across Tompkins Square Park Eastbound to Avenue C.

This event is free to the public and family-oriented, therefore, no sale or promotion of alcohol and tobacco is allowed.

Pick up a Festival and Map Guide at the official Loisaida Festival booth to be located on Avenue C and 9thStreet.
