Media Ignores NYC Rally Supporting UPR Student Strike - By National Institute for Latino Policy

As the crisis at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) continues, some news coverage of this issue is beginning to make it to the mainstream media and the Internet. However, to illustrate the degree of media blackout on this issue in a city with close to 800,000 Puerto Ricans, a demonstration in support of the UPR students held in New York City on May 18th in front of the offices of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) went largely unnoticed by the city media. One reporter from a major television station told us they figured that the demo was off because of the bad weather and wound up not covering it. However, thanks to YouTube, we have evidence that this rally did, in fact, take place. Watch it here (Sofia Gallisa Muriente's video) and here (José Rivera's video)
