In a city where at least one-fourth of the population traces its origins to Spanish-speaking lands, it seems reasonable to assume that Spain will be the people’s favorite against the Netherlands for the World Cup soccer championship on Sunday. But does it not seem proper that we who live in what was once the capital of the colonial province of New Netherland should feel a certain affinity for the players representing the old country?
