César Portillo de la Luz, Bolero Giant, Is Dead

Cuban guitarrist and composer César Portillo de la Luz, one of the greatest creators of Latin American romantic popular songs and co-founder of "filin," a 1950s renovation of bolero that preceded bossa nova in incorporating harmonic and melodic elements from jazz into a Latino music genre, died on Havana, Cuba, on Saturday.
