Gingrich to GOP: "Get Over Obamacare"

Former Speaker of the House and perennial presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich told a gathering of GOP operatives on Wednesday that lawmakers who criticize the Affordable Care Act (popularly known as Obamacare) but offer no alternatives to it will be left with “zero answer” for constituents. Twenty years ago, Gingrich recalled, they were able to block President Clinton's health care reform plan because they had a “positive alternative approach” to the issue.

“I would bet for most of you, you go home in the next two weeks while your members of Congress are home and you look at them in the eye and you say, ‘What is your positive replacement for Obamacare?’ and they will have zero answer,” Gingrich told state party chairs, activists, and operatives at the Republican National Committee summer meeting in Boston.

“We are caught up right now in a culture – and you see it every single day – where as long as we are negative, as long as we are vicious, as long as we can tear down our opponent, we don’t have to worry, so we don’t."

As most Republicans do, Gingrich profoundly dislikes Obamacare --he has called it "centralized Healthcare Dictatorship". But by speaking out against the dominant mood of his own party he is siding with the GOP establishment and other moderate conservatives across the country who are deeply concerned about the take-over of their organization by the radicalized, anti-Government, Tea party faction.
