Obama on Suspending Deportations: 'That's Not An Option'

President Barack Obama said Tuesday in an inteview with Telemundo's José Díaz Balart that he has no plans to prevent deportations via executive orden if Congress falters in delivering an immigation reform bill.
"If we start broadening that, then essentially, I would be ignoring the law in a way that I think would be very difficult to defend legally," said Obama. "So that's not an option."
Last year, the Obama administration launched its Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which has so far granted reprieve to 455,000 young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. But deportations of their parents and others continue at a rate of about 1,000 per day and activists argue that the President could his executive powers to stop them.
