El Museo's Chief Curator Resigns

Chus Martínez moves to another barrio
Last year, the appointment of Spaniard Chus Martínez as El Museo del Barrio's head curator was announced by the organization's board as a great step forward in the way of becoming a more international art institution (it was also the cause for a short-lived scandal when Martinez allegedly derided El Museo's audience at an interview, something she strongly denies).

Martínez's resignation, effective  January 31st, comes in the wake of other resignations and the vacancies of some key positions--including El Museo's director post, still open almost a year after Margarita Aguilar left and sued the institution--, and highlights a deep crisis in the traditional East Harlem institution.
