Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (1918 – 2013)

Nelson Mandela, the black leader who spent almost three decades in jail for his fight against South Africa's white minority rule--exemplified by its infamous apartheid system--and later became his country’s first democratically elected president and an international emblem of justice, died Thursday night at the age of 95.
